Web designers and developers benefit from new features and performance improvements while gaining greater creative control when developing engaging web applications, interactive content and high-quality video across different browsers and operating systems.
“Web designers and developers know they can reliably reach the entire web when they use Flash Player to deliver video, online games, Rich Internet Applications (RIAs) and other interactive experiences,” says David Wadhwani, General Manager and Vice President of Adobe’s Platform Business Unit. “With Flash Player 10, we are delivering genuine internet innovation that the community is already using to create an entirely new kind of web experience unlike anything seen before.”
Adobe Flash Player 10 builds on the capabilities of the world’s most widely deployed runtime client, adding support for custom filters and effects, native 3D transformation and animation, improved audio processing and GPU hardware acceleration. Drawing on Adobe’s more than 25 years of experience with text, the new and highly flexible text engine in Adobe Flash Player 10 gives web designers and developers additional text-layout options and improved creative control.
Improved collaboration and 3D display
Adobe Flash Player 10 also extends the capabilities of the Adobe Creative Suite 4 product family, available from the end of this year, through deeper integration of Flash technology. This enables more efficient collaboration and improved workflows between web designers and developers. Users can create custom filters and effects with Adobe Pixel Bender. Adobe Pixel Bender technology is also used for many filters and effects in Adobe After Effects CS4. Developers creating applications for display in Adobe Flash Player 10 can use these filters, blending and fill effects to develop or modify animated effects in rich-media content that are applied at runtime. Flash Player 10 users also benefit from new features and performance improvements in Adobe Flash CS4 Professional, including easy-to-use 3D effects that let designers create content in 2D and then easily transform and animate it in 3D.
Adobe Flash Player combines extensive creative capabilities, engaging user experiences and high-quality audio and video playback with universal reach across different operating systems. Flash Player content reaches more than 98 percent of all internet-connected computers. More than 80 percent of all online video worldwide is viewed using Adobe Flash technology, making Flash the leading format for moving images on the web. The previous Adobe Flash Player 9 update reached 90 percent penetration on internet-connected PCs in less than nine months. A similarly high rate is expected for Flash Player 10.
The innovations introduced with Adobe Flash Player 10 also contribute to the future activities of the Open Screen Project. The project is working, for example, to bring Flash Player 10 to mobile devices. It is an industry-wide initiative advancing rich internet experiences based on a consistent runtime environment for open web browsing and standalone applications, with the aim of enabling their delivery on PCs, mobile devices and consumer electronics.
