Warner Bros. Entertainment GmbH in Hamburg had already added a digital cinema system to its screening room at the beginning of the year. Since then, the Kinoton FP 30 E film projector has shared the space in front of the projection window with a compact
DCP 30 SX Digital Cinema projector.
Constantin Film has now gone one step further: the DCP 30 S Digital Cinema projector that Kinoton installed in Constantin’s Munich screening room in October also reproduces stereoscopic cinema in full 2K resolution with its integrated Dolby 3D system. Constantin had already told Handelsblatt in June that it intended to produce the first German 3D animated film—the digital installations in its screening room are another clear commitment to 3D cinema. At the same time, the D-Cinema system is the ideal addition to Constantin’s professional digital projection system, which can be used to review digitized content in a wide variety of formats, for example on Digital Betacam or DVD.
Of course, classic film technology is still far from obsolete at Constantin—as it is at Warner. Just under three years ago, Kinoton equipped the screening room with a high-quality electronically controlled studio projector suitable for both 35 mm film and the classic 3-perf post-production format.
This flexibility across digital and analog projection formats is important, since Constantin uses its screening room as a reference cinema, among other purposes. Here, filmmakers can review their work once more in optimum picture and sound quality after post-production has been completed and make sure that the results of the shoot and careful post-production meet their expectations. The new feature films can then enter the distribution chain.
