MSI, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of motherboards, graphics cards and notebooks, presented the MSI NetOn in Munich, showing the next generation of advanced multimedia devices in Europe for the first time and entering an entirely new market segment. The all-in-one PC was based on an Intel® N270 Atom processor with Intel® 945GSE+ICH7M chipset and 1 GB of DDR2 RAM.
With a 16- or 19-inch WSVGA LED display offering an HD-ready resolution of 1,366 × 768 and an integrated Intel GMA 950 graphics solution, the multimedia systems were also designed to handle demanding video. In the “Touch” version, MSI offered the 19-inch model with a touchscreen for particularly intuitive operation. A 160 GB 2.5-inch SATA hard drive provided storage. Four USB 2.0 ports, a 4-in-1 card reader, WLAN B/G and Gigabit Ethernet offered connectivity for internet access, printers, USB storage, external CD, DVD and Blu-ray drives, hard disks, and audio/video devices such as cameras and MP3 players.
An optional integrated DVB-T card and Super Multi slot-in DVD burner enabled television and video use anywhere in the home at any time on the 65 mm-thin all-in-one system. Energy-efficient Intel® Atom™ processor technology offered potential savings of up to 85 percent compared with a standard PC using a 300-watt power supply, while the external power supply and sophisticated fan control kept the NetOn quiet even under full load. MSI used Windows XP Home as the operating system, with Vista Home Basic or Linux including OpenOffice also available as options.

All-in-one solution for home, office and public spaces
With Novell SUSE Linux including OpenOffice, Microsoft Windows XP Home or Vista Home Basic, the MSI NetOn offered easy setup and a space-saving complete solution for office applications, television, internet, video and video games, as well as information points in public spaces or POS information screens in restaurants and retail. Control through the exclusive MSI user interface put content and media within easy reach.
High performance and energy efficiency with low operating noise
The Wind NetOn series also used the lightweight, energy-saving design of the entire Wind family to meet contemporary technological and customer requirements. With the latest performance-optimized Intel® Atom™ platform, consisting of an Intel® Atom™ processor and Intel® 945GSE+ICH7-M chipset, high performance no longer meant high power consumption. Even under full load, the NetOn’s operating noise remained at a barely perceptible 30 dB.
Service and availability
The warranty period was two years. Trained staff were available to help customers with setup and fault diagnosis through the support and service number 01805-5215521 (€0.14 per minute from a German landline).
The MSI NetOn was scheduled to be available from specialist retailers from the end of January 2009, with prices starting at €499.
