As German Films announced at noon today, the independent expert jury chaired by Alfred Hürmer selected the Constantin Film production (producer: Bernd Eichinger). “The outstanding acting and the exceptional cinematic realization of the story offer a view of the early 1970s in the Federal Republic of Germany without glorifying the perpetrators,” the jury said in its statement.
FFF managing director Dr. Klaus Schaefer said: “The Baader Meinhof Complex is one of the most important films funded by FFF last year. I am particularly pleased that, with the momentum of this preliminary decision for an Oscar nomination, this production is now entering the race for audience approval. We are keeping our fingers crossed for Constantin Film and everyone involved!”
The Baader Meinhof Complex opens in German cinemas on September 25, 2008. FilmFernsehFonds Bayern supported the star-studded feature film with €1.4 million in production funding and €225,000 in distribution funding.
