The Independent Games Show was the newest programme item at that year’s Living Games Festival. From May 28 to 30, young game developers could present current projects and face the audience’s critical vote.
Together with cooperation partner Gamesload, which supported the Independent Games Show that year, visitors could vote for the best independent game. Each visitor could put the games through their paces and vote between May 28 and 30. On Saturday, May 30, the game receiving the greatest support would receive the Living Games Independent Award.
The winner was automatically nominated for the Gamesload Newcomer Award in December as part of the German Developer Awards. The Gamesload Newcomer Award distributed €10,000 in prize money annually. The previous year, 50 games had been submitted. A five-member expert jury assessed entries and nominated candidates before the three winning games were selected.
Any school, student or hobby-development team could participate. Interested applicants were asked to contact independent@living-games-festival.de. Entries needed to be presentable; the decisive criteria were playability and good presentation, but not completeness.
