Gefen Extender Sends DVI Video over a Single CAT6 Cable

Gefen’s new EXT-DVI-1CAT6 sends single-link DVI video over one CAT-6a cable across distances up to 60 metres at resolutions up to 1920 × 1200 at 60 Hz. It advances the successful DVI-CAT5-MS, which transmits DVI over two CAT cables.

The extender supports every DVI specification, ensuring full compatibility with monitors and DVI devices. Its entirely digital transmission method ensures 100 percent signal integrity in this single-cable extension solution and complies with HDCP requirements.

Gefen EXT-DVI-1CAT6 consists of transmitter and receiver units. The DVI source—a computer, set-top box or DVD player—is connected to the transmitter using the supplied 1.8-metre DVI cable. The receiver is connected to a DVI-capable video display. A CAT-6a cable connects the units over distances up to 60 metres; CAT-5 cable supports a shorter distance. Power is supplied by five-volt batteries located in both units.
