BIRTV 2009 – DVS Demonstrates RED Workflows in Real Time

CLIPSTER supports real-time processing of RED material as well as DCI mastering for stereoscopic 3D content.

At BIRTV, DVS says it will present its flagship CLIPSTER® with an expanded feature set for post-production, film and broadcasting. Visitors to stand 8b10 will experience RED workflows and 3D DCI mastering in real time.

With its revolutionary RED workflow, DVS enables real-time decoding and debayering at full 4K quality in 12-bit RGB. RED data can be displayed and edited directly in the CLIPSTER timeline while being output in 4K at the same time. For editing on NLE systems, CLIPSTER converts REDCODETM RAW files to Avid DNxHD very quickly.

According to DVS, the conforming tool automatically assembles high-resolution RED content in accordance with an offline EDL, ALE, FCP XML or edit list. RED metadata is fully integrated into the conforming process. Split-screen mode allows the 4K 12-bit data to be compared with the offline proxies.

DVS is also demonstrating DCI mastering for 3D projects at BIRTV: CLIPSTER generates Digital Cinema Packages (DCPs) from stereoscopic film material in real time. CLIPSTER performs every step of stereoscopic DCI mastering, including encoding and MXF wrapping, at high speed. The DCI Mastering Wizard ensures an optimal mastering process.

To conform stereoscopic material, the user simply drags the EDLs for the left and right eyes into the CLIPSTER timeline. The two tracks are combined into a stereoscopic video track that can then be edited like a regular video track.
