The Pixel Farm will present a new solution called PFPipe at the upcoming SIGGRAPH (New Orleans, August 3–7, 2009), designed to make the workflow of PFTrack users considerably more efficient. PFTrack 5.0 and the data generated by the tracking software will be integrated into third-party applications to achieve greater data consistency within the production pipeline, save time and reduce the risk of operating errors.
PFPipe is a C API for reading PFTrack projects and the data they contain, currently camera and distortion data. This is intended to enable direct integration of PFTrack data into third-party applications. According to the provider, the first version of PFPipe will provide access to camera data and distortion models and will also support all project links to footage and clips used within the project file itself.
To illustrate how it works, The Pixel Farm’s developers have ported PFBarrel, PFCameraImport and PFDataCombiner to this architecture. The tools will be made available to all PFTrack 5.0 users. The company is also providing C code examples so that programmers and technical directors can gain an impression of the technology and quickly develop their own tools based on it.
