Broadcasters

The broadcasters SVT (Sweden), M6 (France), Ecuavisa (Ecuador), Iraqi Media Network, and broadcast service provider CBC (Germany) have acquired various Avid audio and video solutions to improve the efficiency of their newsroom productions.

* CBC recently acquired a number of additional Digidesign ICON D-Control ES audio mixing consoles for integration into its existing Pro Tools|HD-based audio post-production environment. They will be used for audio post-production on trailers and documentary productions.

* SVT was looking for a solution to improve production processes at the broadcaster’s headquarters in Stockholm and optimize workflow in cooperation between the regional production studios, which are distributed across the country and networked through nine Avid Interplay systems. SVT Stockholm’s new Avid HD production solution consists of around 60 Media Composer Nitris DX systems, several Media Composer Software and Pro Tools|HD systems networked through Video Satellite, and several Interplay Assist systems. SVT has also invested in Unity ISIS central storage for shared use and in Interplay cluster systems to facilitate SD and HD workflows between the approximately 70 client systems and optimize shared media use by all connected newsrooms.

* M6 is switching to HD technologies and purchased an Avid HD News solution to improve overall production quality and ensure the stability of technical processes during the transition phase.

Education Sector

International educational institutions, including SAE Institute, are investing in Avid audio and video solutions to train their students on the latest products and prepare them optimally for careers in media production.

* SAE Institute recently purchased 400 upgrade licenses for the Pro Tools 8 system, including 80 Pro Tools|HD licenses, to give students access to the same tools and procedures used by industry professionals. The institute’s locations in San Francisco, Istanbul and Oxford also purchased Digidesign ICON D-Control ES audio mixing consoles.

“It is essential that we train our students on professional tools that they will also use later in their careers,” says Rudi Grieme, Managing Director of SAE. “Avid accommodates educational institutions with special prices, has great expertise in audio and video workflows, and is very committed in its close cooperation with schools and universities to ensuring that students can use professional solutions. This enables us to ensure that our students are ideally prepared for the high standards of film, television and music production.”

[0]Studio Productions

In studio production, the producers of The Ellen DeGeneres Show decided to replace their Final Cut Pro systems with an integrated workflow system from Avid in order to better meet the high production demands of the nationally broadcast program with these reliable solutions.

* Telepictures Productions, the producers of The Ellen DeGeneres Show and the program Lopez Tonight, scheduled to air in the coming autumn, selected eight Media Composer Nitris DX systems connected to a shared Avid Unity Media Network storage system in order to meet the tight schedule associated with producing a one-hour show that airs five days a week. The post-production team of The Ellen DeGeneres Show was interested in Avid’s solutions because of their ability to provide a collaborative workflow for producing content that meets the criteria of the show’s type and style, something the Final Cut Pro systems could not deliver. The Avid systems offer outstanding performance and enable the show’s editors to access all media content simultaneously at any point during the creative process, ensuring on-time delivery to the network.

“Support for seamless high-definition multicamera editing is one of the outstanding features of the Avid system,” explains Chuck Dages, Executive Vice President, Emerging Technology at Warner Bros. “The ability to support collaboration between editors prompted us to move The Ellen DeGeneres Show to the Avid platform. Avid’s workflow with shared access to bins and Unity’s high-performance features were what we needed to meet the high demands of this challenging production.”

Rental Companies

Various rental companies for audio and video equipment have expanded their inventories to provide producers of television programs, feature films and live concert events with fast, reliable workflow tools that allow customers to concentrate on the creative process.

* Wexler Video, the market-leading provider of end-to-end broadcast rental solutions serving productions such as House, The Amazing Race and Heroes, upgraded its inventory of editing products by acquiring several Media Composer Nitris DX and Symphony Nitris DX systems.

* Jane’s Addiciton and Nine Inch Nails were the highlights of the Sasquatch Musical Festival, held in Quincy, Washington, USA, over Memorial Day weekend. The festival used a new VENUE SC48 live sound production console supplied by Seattle-based rental company Carlson Audio Systems. Carlson chose VENUE SC48 to provide event technicians with a fully integrated, user-friendly mixing console offering a wealth of creative mixing options.
