The journey of the starship Enterprise and its young, dynamic crew thrilled cinema audiences around the world. On November 2, 2009, our planet will venture into new dimensions when “Star Trek” appears in various home-cinema versions. Paramount Home Entertainment is releasing a single DVD, a Blu-ray 2-disc set, a SteelBook Special Edition with two DVDs available exclusively from Müller, and two limited Amazon editions in a spaceship model as a DVD or Blu-ray 2-disc set. Director J.J. Abrams’ action-packed reboot of the “Star Trek” franchise was celebrated by critics and enthusiastically received by long-standing and new fans alike. The film grossed more than 375 million dollars worldwide. Alongside young and highly attractive actors such as Chris Pine (Carriers), Zachary Quinto (Heroes), Zoe Saldana (Avatar), Karl Urban (The Bourne Supremacy), John Cho (Harold & Kumar), Anton Yelchin (Terminator Salvation) and Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead), experienced artists such as Eric Bana (Munich), Bruce Greenwood (National Treasure: Book of Secrets), Winona Ryder (Girl, Interrupted) and, not least, the original Spock, Leonard Nimoy, also appear.

“I can hardly wait for the Star Trek fans to enjoy the film on DVD. The behind-the-scenes footage on the DVD and especially on the Blu-ray Disc gives a wonderful impression of the hard and at the same time crazy work and the incredible fun we had during filming,” says J.J Abrams. “It was unique to work with the cast and crew. When you see these special features, you will know why. And hopefully all those who did not see Star Trek in the cinema will see it now, because with Star Trek, Paramount has made an extraordinary film with excellent picture and sound.”

Worlds No Human Has Ever Entered Before The Enterprise returns – in a way that guarantees you have never known the team around Captain Kirk! With the help of screenwriters Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (“Transformers,” “Mission: Impossible III”), director J. J. Abrams enters worlds no human has ever seen before. And he does so with a new and young Star Trek crew ready for any adventure, however great…

The film characters around Kirk, Spock, Scotty and Bones have remained the same, but with the young cast around Chris Pine (‘Kirk’), Zachary Quinto (‘Spock’), Simon Pegg (‘Scotty’) and Karl Urban (‘Bones’), Abrams deliberately emphasizes initiating a generational change. The film describes the beginnings of the Enterprise, such as how the team comes together, Kirk’s development into captain of the Enterprise, and of course it also explains the story behind the invention of the “Enterprise transporter.” Nostalgists will not be disappointed either, because original Spock Leonard Nimoy is part of the Enterprise crew in a guest role. And with Eric Bana as the villain, the young team faces an outstanding opponent in every respect.

Special Features Not of This World

The discs are packed with galactic special features that beam viewers directly into the new adventure. They also offer an absolute novelty in the home-entertainment sector: The forward-looking augmented-reality features contained in the sets with three Blu-ray Discs and with two DVDs provide breathtaking effects. With the help of a webcam, a Star Trek image on the computer screen transforms into a holographic 3D tour through the U.S.S Enterprise, guaranteeing a gripping, interactive experience of a very special kind.
