According to ZDF, the award honors personalities who have rendered outstanding services to the festival and Hamburg as a film location, and is called the “Hamburger Filmfestbesteck.” This year, the “Filmfestbesteck” bears the title “Das Gelbe vom Ei” on its four silver spoons; the Hamburg director attracted attention years ago with the ZDF comedy of the same name. Lars Becker’s “Nachtschicht,” with Armin Rohde, Barbara Auer and Minh-Khai Phan-Thi, was the first German police film format and is one of the most successful and at the same time most unusual crime formats; up to six million viewers regularly tune in when ZDF broadcasts the cult crime films. “Nachtschicht” is produced by the ZDF subsidiary Network Movie.

In the new “Nachtschicht – Wir sind die Polizei,” which premiered at Filmfest Hamburg on October 1 and before whose screening festival director Albert Wiederspiel presented the award, fake police officers become embroiled in a real case – the drama takes its course… Cosma Shiva Hagen, Florian David Fitz, Julia Dietze and Mina Tander play the leading roles in this film, which ZDF is expected to broadcast in early 2010. On Monday, the Hamburg Senate had already honored Lars Becker with a Senate brunch in his honor; this brunch is held for people who have rendered special services to the Hanseatic city. After Fatih Akim, Lars Becker was the second director to receive this honor.

ZDF has a long and successful collaboration with Lars Becker – from the comedy “Das Gelbe vom Ei” through the police thriller “Rette Deine Haut” and the “Nachtschicht” series to the land-and-sea comedy “Schade um das schöne Geld,” which has now been nominated for the German Comedy Award.
