Avid presents Avid Interplay 2.1, the new version of its production-asset management system. The company is also introducing Avid Interplay Capture (1.0), a new Interplay system option for planning ingest and recording. Customers now benefit from improved media access and greater control in their workflows, as Interplay now also supports Avid’s Mac-based editing systems. Optimised ingest and metadata-management functions also increase workflow accuracy.
Interplay is currently installed at more than 700 broadcasters and production companies worldwide. The system enables customers to manage content-creation projects efficiently by centralising media assets and also offering remote access. Interplay 2.1 now also supports Avid Media Composer and Avid Symphony editing systems on the Mac, so customers using the latest Apple operating system, 10.6 Snow Leopard, can also benefit from the Interplay workflow. With Web Services 2.0, Interplay 2.1 also extends Interplay’s interoperability with third-party products. Alongside access to Interplay media and metadata, external applications can now use Interplay Media Services, for example, to exchange media between Interplay and external systems, convert media into different formats or deploy low-resolution proxies.
Interplay Capture 1.0
Interplay Capture, a new Interplay system option for automating ingest processes, enables incoming media recording to be planned and controlled quickly and accurately. Features include:
• Shared database: A direct interface to the Interplay system database accelerates customer workflows and optimises metadata management. Editors and journalists can begin logging in Interplay Access and editing media while ingest is still in progress, allowing news to be forwarded and broadcast more quickly.
• Failover and redundancy: Dynamic channel allocation and failover within a channel pool ensure that ingested material is captured precisely and completely.
• Comprehensively configurable user interface: Improved control and detailed insight into ingested material and system-diagnostics data give customers greater productivity. Customers can update schedules during operation by creating and monitoring scheduled items on a timeline basis. This shows the status of multiple feeds and multiple channels at a glance.
