Astra Broadband Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of leading European satellite operator SES Astra, is further expanding the distribution network for its Astra2Connect satellite internet service in Germany. A corresponding agreement has been concluded with service provider Stratos Media GmbH. Alongside traditional distribution channels and online marketing, Stratos Media will offer Astra2Connect under the Stratos DSL brand in various service packages with limited and unlimited data volumes and speeds of up to 4 Mbit/s. A VoIP telephone connection can be added on request. Marketing began at CeBIT 2010.

Stratos Media GmbH, based in Hanover, has operated in television and media services for nine years. The company helped establish travel shopping on German television in 2001 and today develops various productions for well-known teleshopping broadcasters, among other activities. By marketing Astra2Connect, the company is also expanding its service portfolio into broadband services.

“With Stratos Media, we have gained an extremely competent partner for distributing Astra2Connect,” said Norbert Willems, Managing Director of Astra Broadband Services. “Through this collaboration, we can now also offer our product to customers via teleshopping channels. We are confident that Stratos DSL will establish itself successfully in the market.”

“Astra2Connect is an ideal solution for everyone who has no access to the terrestrial broadband network because of their geographical location. We are therefore very pleased to add this technology to our service portfolio,” said Dr. Victor Kühne, Managing Director of Stratos Media GmbH. “Marketing through the digital Astra satellite channels is particularly interesting for us, since it allows us to reach the target group directly.”

Astra2Connect’s innovative two-way satellite technology offers households in regions without terrestrial broadband infrastructure, in particular, a fast and affordable solution for broadband internet access. Customers need only a modem and satellite dish, supplied inexpensively together with instructions for easy self-installation. Rated by consumer-protection organisation Stiftung Warentest as a “genuine replacement for unavailable DSL”, Astra2Connect is already successful in 16 European countries and was recently expanded into Africa.
