Presented by Planet Sports, the premiere at 8 p.m. opens the 1st Munich Surf Festival, followed by the eagerly anticipated film.

Kelly Slater is regarded as one of the world’s best surfers. He was world champion nine times, winning his first title at the age of 20 and his last in 2008 at the “mature” sporting age of 36. Yet he still has not found the perfect wave.

The Ultimate Wave Tahiti 3D accompanies the extreme athlete and Tahitian surf legend Raimana Van Bastolaer on their hunt for the myth. Tahiti and the Polynesian island world, captured by Paul Gauguin in his immortally beautiful South Seas images, are the territories through which the board artists travel with their boards.

Filmed up close in 3D and staged by Stephen Low with great sensitivity, the special energy of surfing, its own unique magic and philosophy, hits the viewer with full force. The enchantment inherent in the natural phenomenon of waves, the sound of the wind and the island world visited is made tangibly comprehensible to the audience through the approach of two great surfers. The elaborate, hard-won images make the surfing cosmos comprehensible – from its traditional Polynesian roots to its most modern developments in elite sport.

The first surf film in 3D is not the only highlight; every guest will receive original tiare flowers – the national flowers of French Polynesia – and, in cooperation with organiser L’Evasion Tours Dresden and airline Air Tahiti Nui, a trip for two to the “perfect wave” at Teahupoo on Tahiti worth more than 7,000 euros will be raffled throughout the run.

On Sunday, June 6, 2010, at 8 p.m., “The Ultimate Wave Tahiti 3D” will be shown again at Forum Kino.

Admission for both dates costs €9.50, and tickets are available in advance at the Forum am Deutschen Museum from May 21!
