The future belongs to 3D entertainment. The success of cinema films such as “Avatar” and “Alice in Wonderland” demonstrates this clearly. A new PC category is now celebrating its premiere at Computex, enabling 3D content such as games, films or photos to be displayed simply and quickly at the highest quality. NVIDIA is presenting the new 3D PCs together with its “3D partners.”
As 3D content such as feature films, photos and video games becomes increasingly widespread, demand for 3D playback devices is also growing significantly. The greatest flexibility is offered here by a new PC category, the so-called 3D PCs. These devices are celebrating their premiere at Computex. NVIDIA is presenting them here together with its “3D partners,” such as Alternate, Alienware, Arlt, Asus, Atelco, Dell, Microsoft and Toshiba.
The following components are required to use a 3D desktop PC or notebook:
- Active 3D shutter glasses, such as those included in NVIDIA’s 3D Vision Kit
-
3D-capable displays such as 120 Hz LCD monitors, 3D projectors, 3D TVs or notebooks with integrated 3D LCDs
-
Graphics solutions such as an NVIDIA GeForce GPU to display high-definition content on the 3D display
3D PCs will give users the flexibility to watch 3D content such as feature films, sporting events, games or photos at home in high quality.
Overview of Applications for a 3D PC:
3D games: around 425 PC games are already available that are supported by NVIDIA 3D Vision technology, the industry’s leading consumer 3D PC solution
3D photos: manufacturers such as Fujifilm and Sony are bringing digital consumer 3D cameras to market that can take 3D photos
Web content in 3D: NVIDIA has developed solutions for live streaming of 3D videos together with Adobe and Microsoft. More than 1,000 3D videos are already available on websites such as YouTube. The Masters golf tournament was also recently broadcast live in 3D on the internet as the first major sporting event
Blu-ray 3D films: together with CyberLink, the world’s leading provider of software players for PCs, NVIDIA has developed solutions that allow current Hollywood blockbusters to be displayed in GPU-accelerated 3D.
At Computex, NVIDIA’s 3D PC partners are showing numerous new desktops, notebooks, all-in-one PCs and displays designed for 3D presentation.
“End consumers are enthusiastic about 3D and are looking for a suitable platform for 3D content. With our new 3D PC series, anyone can bring the impressive stereoscopic 3D experience into their home – for games, films, photos or the internet,” emphasises Markus Harbach, Head of Product Management at Alternate.
“In our view, the future clearly belongs to the 3D PC. And with several new products, we will provide our customers with easy-to-implement and rapidly deployable solutions right from the launch of the new generation of devices,” emphasises Adrian Moro, Head of Direct Sales at Arlt Computer.
Klaus Rüther, Product Manager at Atelco Computer, explains: “3D applications are gaining importance across a broad front. With NVIDIA 3D Vision and our new 3D PC solutions, extremely realistic 3D experiences are now child’s play for every user.”
