The so-called HDO-3D technology enables the first ground lenses for 3D glasses – so the days of wearing shutter glasses over normal glasses are over. The lenses were tested at the DreamWorks Animation studios. A curve in the lenses – which are intended to be distortion-free – also expands the field of view in the film, so that the full image can be seen even in the first row.
The passively polarised lenses (meaning passive shutter glasses that do not actively blank out but instead deliver the different images to the left and right eyes through lens polarisation) are expected to reach the market in the USA later this year, and the worldwide 3D fashion-glasses wave is then due to be unleashed in 2011.
