Insights into the World of ILM: “Industrial Light & Magic: Creating The Impossible”
Founded by George Lucas in 1976, the multiple-award-winning visual-effects studio Industrial Light & Magic has been responsible for some of the most memorable moments in the history of visual effects over the past 35 years – including the “Star Wars” trilogy, James Cameron’s “Terminator 2” and “The Abyss”, “Jurassic Park” and, not least, the “Harry Potter” series. Director Leslie Iwerks and Visual Effects Supervisor Tim Alexander present a very special screening to the Stuttgart audience this year: the documentary “Industrial Light & Magic: Creating The Impossible”.
Leslie Iwerks, who also directed the Pixar documentary “The Pixar Story”, takes viewers on a journey into the world of ILM and interviews a whole series of well-known industry figures in her film: George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, Ron Howard, J.J. Abrams, Jon Favreau, acting legends Samuel L. Jackson and Robin Williams, producer Jerry Bruckheimer and John Lasseter, Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios, all have their say. The documentary traces the path from the first computer-animated character through to the spectacular visual effects of recent blockbusters such as “Transformers”, “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Iron Man”, drawing on previously unreleased material.
DreamWorks Animation: Participation Confirmed
FMX is delighted to welcome a large team from DreamWorks Animation to the Haus der Wirtschaft this year. Philippe Denis and Philippe Gluckman provide in-depth insights into the company’s decentralised workflows and explain the collaboration between its headquarters in California and its branch in India. DreamWorks Animation will also have numerous recruiters on site at FMX to give talented young people the chance to gain a foothold in the industry
In Focus: China, France, Spain, New York and Baden-Württemberg
As every year, FMX 2011 also examines current industry trends and recent successes with regard to a very specific region. This year, FMX presents a special Focus on France, Focus on Spain, Focus on New York and Focus on Chinese Animation.
In addition, the MFG Animation Media Cluster Region Stuttgart highlights the latest developments in the state of Baden-Württemberg, which has established itself as an important location for visual effects and animation in Germany.
Stuttgart: Capital of Animated Film
Three events make Stuttgart the European capital of animated film again at the beginning of May: from May 3-6, FMX 2011 brings together industry experts and specialists from all over the world at the Haus der Wirtschaft. The 18th Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (ITFS) invites directors, production companies, distributors and world sales companies to present their latest films on site from May 3-8. And Animation Production Day 2011 (APD) serves as a business platform for the animation industry on May 3 and 4.
