According to EditShare, the reasons for this are the still-lacking stability of the revised editor due to the many new features. The editing software is said to have originally been developed for specialized Lightworks workstations; getting it to run stably on computers with different hardware, including GPU acceleration, now seems to be more difficult than planned after all. Likewise, the development of a version for Linux and Mac OS X is said to have resulted in a complete redevelopment of some core elements of the program.

Lightworks has been offered since 1989 and is said to distinguish itself through intuitive operation, real-time synchronization and multi-camera recording. In addition, it can exchange data with other video editors. Among other things, films such as "Pulp Fiction", "Braveheart" and "Mission Impossible" are said to have been made with Lightworks.

The Public Beta 10.0.4 version for Windows replaced by the new release and Lightworks available for Mac OS X and Linux as well as Windows. Anyone who no longer wants to wait for the release can apply as a tester for the Windows alpha version after registering.
