At NAB in April, Autodesk presented the new version of Smoke for the first time. Key features of the software are said to include an intuitive user interface, node-based compositing that can be integrated into the timeline via ConnectFX, and a robust toolset for high-end finishing. For the 3D workflow, Smoke is said to include new 3D tools for 3D text, titles, and logos, as well as control over lighting. According to Autodesk, stereo 3D projects can now also be edited and composited with Smoke.
The new features are intended to link editing and VFX more closely than previous versions. Smoke 2013 is expected to run on iMac and MacBook Pro systems that use Thunderbolt storage and IO. Autodesk intends to complete the trial phase by September, so the trial version can be used until September 15.
