According to Pixar Animation Studios, a package can now be purchased that combines RenderMan for Maya and RenderMan Studio 4.0. The price for the entire package, including an implemented renderer that is fully functional, is equivalent to just under 1050 EUR.
Pixar points out that RenderMan Studio 4.0 implements rendering technologies developed for the future RenderMan Pro Server 17.0. Behind this are optimizations in ray tracing in conjunction with subsurface scattering and the so-called multi-bounce GI. Shaders that are completely plausible from a physical perspective have been integrated into the Slim Shader Editor. Some of the newly added technologies have already been seen in use in the films Cars 2 and Brave. These include progressive ray-traced re-rendering, dynamic shader binding, and a new library filled with RenderMan materials directly for Maya. Photorealistic creations are intended thereby to proceed even more easily.
Compatibility & Pricing
RenderMan Studio 4.0 is compatible with Autodesk Maya 2013 and runs on Windows, Mac OS, as well as Linux. If users already own version 3 of RenderMan Studio, special upgrade prices are available that can be requested.
Users of the older RenderMan for Maya can also upgrade to the RenderMan Studio 4 version, and in terms of price the scope remains the same as that of previous RenderMan for Maya upgrades.
