The pocket-sized Q2 HD gets its power from AA rechargeable batteries and is intended thereby to be able to record for just under two hours. A 64 GB SDXC card can easily be filled with approximately 15 hours of Full HD video material.
The small video camera is equipped with a 1/3.2-inch CMOS sensor that records HD material in MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format. In addition, there is of course also a 2-inch display through which settings can be made. In terms of the lens, expectations should not be set too high, but the Q2 HD allows everything at a distance of 1.23 meters to be recorded in focus. What is missing, however, is an optical zoom, but apart from that, few wishes remain unfulfilled for the compact form. Through a USB cable, users are able to convert the mini camcorder into a webcam on the one hand or use it as a pure microphone on the other. According to the manufacturer, the webcam function is intended to work with applications such as Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder or Skpye, and the microphone function permits recordings at 24 bit/96kHz. The audio recording can be saved in PCM Wave, for example.
Probably the greatest focus is the omnidirectional microphone, which, in conjunction with the laterally mounted pair of condenser microphones, can be used for a recording form known as mid-side audio recording. With regard to the orientation angles, these have an adjustable range from 30 to 150 degrees.
From August 2012, the small mini HD camcorder is intended to be available in stores for 200,- EUR, and accessories are also intended to be available. These optionally include a table tripod, a power supply, and a windscreen.
