3ds Max: Thinkbox Shows Ember

At this year’s Siggraph, Thinkbox showed Ember, initially as a 3ds Max plug-in, for manipulating volumetric data.

Ember combines a range of tools for creating, loading, and processing volumetric datasets as fields, point clouds, or voxel grids. According to Thinkbox Software, the main features include the ability to exchange data with other simulation software and their data types, such as FumeFX and FXD datasets, Field3D datasets, Thinkbox PRT, RealFlow BIN files, and also CSV. Mathematical functions, as well as point clouds or particle systems, can be used to create scalar and vector fields.

The tool is currently still in the beta phase, and in addition to the plug-in principle, there is also intended to be a standalone version in the future. So far everything sounds very exciting, but it remains to be seen until the tool or plug-in enters the open phase for a detailed test. Anyone who wants to be part of the beta and experiment may register here.
