Just under three months before the event begins, the programme for FMX 2013, Europe’s most influential conference for digital entertainment, is taking concrete shape. Under the motto "Lean, smart and agile", FMX, which this year is taking place two weeks earlier than usual, namely from 23 April to 26 April, examines the ongoing paradigm shift in the increasingly converging animation, effects, games and transmedia industries.
How are new technologies and flexible strategies changing the business? How does this change affect workflow, storytelling, budget planning and distribution? International expert peopel answer these and other current questions through various presentations, workshops and masterclasses at Stuttgart’s Haus der Wirtschaft, where FMX once again offers its participants plenty of opportunity to exchange ideas and network at the Marketplace, Recruiting Hub and School Campus.
In addition to the first confirmed presentations on the VFX highlights "Life of Pi" and "Cloud Atlas" as well as the animated comedy "The Croods", FMX is also pleased to continue its successful cooperation with the Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film (ITFS) and Animation Production Day (APD).
The programme trend already indicated last year is also continuing in 2013: games and transmedia are given even greater weight at the conference. FMX examines current industry trends across platforms and from the perspective of artists and content developers. This year, the programme includes not only the popular "Games: Visual Arts" series, once again curated by Joseph Olin, but many other focal points: Henry LaBounta (Microsoft) curates the "Game Characters" programme track, Dominic Cianciolo (NetherRealm) the "Game Cinematics" series. Curator Wolfgang Engel (Confetti) focuses on "Real-Time Rendering". Inga von Staden (Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg) curates the "Indie Games" series and the "Transmedia Experiences", which under the "Building Worlds" focus also address the paradigm shift.
In the upcoming DP issue, which our subscribers will receive on 20 February, we have a major making-of report on "Cloud Atlas" and "Life of Pi" as well as on the FMX trailer "Rollin’ Safari". The ideal preparation for the FMX Conference on Animation, Effects, Games and Transmedia 2013!
