The 3D paint tool is capable of painting textures directly onto 3D models. According to The Foundry, new in version 2.0 is the new layer system, which enables an improved layer-based workflow. Shaders are now intended to be usable in different layer channels, allowing artists to control every aspect of the surface. In addition, masks can now reportedly be grouped, layers shared and a streamed layer view used.
The Foundry has published a tutorial series with 8 videos for the new layer workflows.
According to The Foundry, the completely updated .PSD support means that Mari 2.0 can now work seamlessly with Adobe Photoshop and other paint tools that use PSD files.
