The musical "Polita" deals with the life of silent-film actress Pola Negri, who made a career in Hollywood. With the stereoscopic stage design, theatre visitors are placed at the centre of the action through 3D glasses. Thanks to the innovative work of Polish studio Platige Image, a stage setting unlike anything before is possible.
VFX supervisor for the "Polita" project was Rafal Sadowy. With a team of 40 artists, he created 20 virtual sets. The greatest difficulty was the sets with which the actors interact, because the timing of the sequences had to be determined precisely in advance and a great deal of experimentation was needed until everything fitted exactly.
Rafal Sadowy hopes to bring the somewhat dusty musical format into the 21st century and reach a new, modern audience. A substantially more innovative idea than recreating a horse for the current musical "War Horse" and having actors run around the stage inside it, and surely a lot more fun.
