Otoy promises that the Octane render engine is fully integrated into the Rhinoceros 3D modelling environment through the "OctaneRender for Rhino" plug-in. This is intended to speed up the workflow drastically, because exporting Rhino scenes is no longer necessary.
Octane Render is a physically based and GPU-based render engine with a node-based user interface. This plug-in release is compatible with Rhino 5 in 64 bit on Windows Vista, 7 or 8.
Features of "OctaneRender for Rhino" include:
- The plug-in user interface is provided in a Rhino panel so that it can be docked and provides all Octane data for the current scene in this panel
- The Rhino scene can be rendered either in the Octane Render viewport with tracked camera position and live updates or with the normal Rhino rendering mechanism
- Automatic conversion of Rhino materials and geometry into Octane, which can also still be edited completely
-
As in the Octane standalone version, the plug-in can be used to change the camera, resolution, environment or post-production settings
-
Octane LiveDB support
-
The render can be paused, resumed and saved
-
Materials and nodes can be duplicated using copy and paste
During the beta phase, the Octane plug-in costs 99 euros, and the final version will cost 199 euros. Ownership of a standalone version is required to use the plug-in. Anyone who does not yet own it can buy a complete bundle for 279 euros.
