Alfonso Cuarón’s film alone received six awards, including for best visual effects. But Disney’s "Frozen" and "Games of Thrones" were also able to win several categories. The HBO series received the award for best visual effects in a broadcast program and "Frozen" was honored as the best animated feature film.
The jury decided that the best real-time visuals could be seen in "Call of Duty: Ghosts", while "The Lone Ranger" won the "Outstanding Supporting Visual Effects in a Feature Motion Picture".
The VES jury saw the best "Outstanding Animated Character in a Live Action Feature Motion Picture" in "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug".
In advertising, the jury was particularly impressed by the Peta spot "98% Human"; the spot won three awards for the most impressive visual effects, best animated character, and most outstanding FX and simulation animation in a commercial.

The DP editorial team is, of course, particularly pleased that "Rugbybugs" from the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg, one of our cover stories (DP issue 07/13), won in the "Best Student Project" category.
