According to Autodesk’s Chris Bradshaw, Senior Vic President, Flame 2015 is expected to handle high-res material better and faster in the workflow, especially when it comes to collaboration with internationally distributed artists.
Flame in the 2015 version also follows the current 4K hype. As a key feature, Autodesk is now also announcing support for 4K and Ultra HD workflows.
The new workflow includes standard 4K formats; 4K/UHD color management that supports both ACES and REC-2020 color spaces; real-time monitoring and playback via SDI from 4K/UHD material at 50P and 60P; and optimized timeline effects and Batch Nodes performance. Further features: 16 GB Fiber Channel controllers in high-performance storage are intended to ensure throughput of high-resolution images in real time.
Flame 2015 supports a second GPU card in the Flame workstation. The Background Reactor provides faster rendering, and artists can now send their shot, sequence or batch setup to the second GPU for renderiing while continuing to work interactively and stably on other tasks in the foreground. The Background Reactor requires two Nvidia Quadro K6000 GPUs (for HP Z820 workstations) or two Nvidia Quadro 6000 GPUs (for HP Z800 and Z820 workstations.
As new creative features, Autodesk announces 3D Shape, which is intended to enable fast modeling, projection design, logo design, motion graphics and relighting. Also new: Replica. This tool makes it possible to quickly animate cascading effects—via a single clone object. The third new feature is expected to be Matchbox improvements.
Flame Premium includes Lustre and in the 2015 version also adds Flare Assist and Flame Assist, which are part of the Desktop Subscription payment model. All products—Flame Premium 2015, Flame 2015, Lustre 2015, Flare 2015 and Flame Assist 2015—are expected to be available later this month; no pricing information was yet available.
