Users of Sony’s CineAlta 4K cameras PMW-F55 and PMW-F5 will in future have the Avid DNxHD codec available as a hardware-upgrade option. The Avid host format can therefore be edited using Avid editing software. Sony will also offer Apple ProRes as a hardware-upgrade option for the PMW-F55 and PMW-F5 in future.
The DNxHD files/ProRes files are stored in the MXF OP-1a wrapper/internally in the camera on Sony SxS PRO+ memory cards. According to the manufacturer, these are less susceptible to file corruption and physical damage thanks to a sustained write speed of 187 MB/s and a robust construction.
