For the upcoming DP issue 06/14, which will appear on August 29, Dr Uli Plank extensively tested the Resolve 11 beta version, as well as the new camera firmware 1.8.2 from Blackmagic Design.
Editing
With version 11, Blackmagic is consistently continuing down the editing path, with the editing tools in particular expanded by 70 new functions, so that with this version the tool is now supposed to be competitive with other professional editing programs. Resolve 11 now supports two screens, among other things, and dynamic JKL trimming, audio transitions and customisable shortcuts for fast editing and easy switching between applications have been added to the toolbox.
The context-sensitive trim tools are also intended to provide a faster workflow. Based on the respective mouse-pointer position, these are supposed to guess whether an editor wants to use the Ripple, Roll, Slip or Slide functions, or wants to extend or shorten the edit. Another important feature is the collaborative workflow, which allows several people to work on the same timeline at the same time.
Colour Correction
Numerous new features for colour correction have also been added: thanks to the new colour-chart tool, automatic colour matching is even more reliable according to Blackmagic Design. With the new "Color Match" tool, footage can be analysed using standardised colour charts and a primary grading can be created automatically.
Price
The DaVince Resolve software is available for 895 euros, while the DaVinci colour-correction system with the complete DaVince Resolve Control Surface is available for 26,635 euros. The system is compatible with Windows and Mac OSX.

At the same time, beta version 11 of DaVinci Resolve Lite for Windows and Mac has also appeared – a stripped-down version of Resolve with which a number of things can be tested.
