New MoCap Programs from Vicon

Vicon released the retargeting and solving software Pegasus at Siggraph in Vancouver. The company also revealed news about Blade 3.

Pegasus is intended to significantly improve the real-time transfer of motion-capture data from Vicon Blade to game assets in the Unity or Unreal Engine. The MoCap tools were developed with IKinema. So anyone who has not yet written their own software solutions for streaming MoCap data into a game engine now gets the ready-made solution from Vicon.

Through Pegasus, directors and developers can display the MoCap data directly with an environment and the appropriate effects such as wind or similar; this is even supposed to work in high quality with Dynamic Lights and texturing effects.

Pegasus Advanced is an expanded version with all the features Pegasus offers. In addition, however, the Advanced version also adapts joints to rigid-body data and streams from the Vicon Tracker software as well.

Both tools are compatible with Windows 7 in 64-bit and OpenGL 2.1 and, according to Vicon, are expected to be available soon.

Blade 3

In addition, Vicon also presented the latest release of the motion-capture software Blade. The third version is intended to offer even more flexibility, and the improved Axiom Engine is intended to produce even faster and more accurate motion visualisations in real time. From now on, the engine is also to be available offline, which is useful for the interactive post-processing pipeline. 

Further new features include the ability to calibrate the capture volume with the help of Vicon’s Bonita video reference by placing the images over the CG environment. This makes character setup easier and improves the overall quality of the recordings. Another important feature extension is support for Python, allowing users to use scripts on offline Blade 3 data.
