CG Penguin as a Best Friend

For the John Lewis online shop, MPC created a CG penguin that shares everyday life with a little boy. Here the studio explains how the character was created.

At the moment, Christmas commercials greet us every day: but penguins almost always work, and CG penguin "Monty" is a successful idea.

It was directed by Dougal Wilson, and the agency behind the idea was adam&eveDDB. 

MPC’s VFX team needed five months to realise the commercial. "Monty" was modelled in ZBrush, after which various movement tests were carried out with the 3D model and the CG penguin was integrated into the live-action footage. The VFX supervisor and CG lead on the project was Diarmid Harrison Murray.
