The Z27q is already the third 5K monitor option on the market: Dell offers the UP2715K monitor, and Apple offers the complete iMac Retina computer. All three models have 5,120 by 2,880 pixels and a 27-inch screen diagonal in 16:9 format.
According to HP, the IPS panel has a luminance of 300 nits with 1.07 billion colours. The pixel density is 218 ppi, and colour calibration is possible via sRGB, Adobe, or BT.709. The Adobe RGB colour space is said to be covered by 99 percent.
Additional functions of the Z27q are picture-in-picture and picture-by-picture modes. The monitor also has a hub with five USB 3.0 ports; the monitor hardware is connected via two DisplayPort 1.2 connections, which according to the manufacturer also support HDCP.
The weight of the HP monitor, including stand, is 7.42 kilograms. Like the Dell monitor model, the HP screen cannot be used together with a Mac computer. All data for the Z27q can be found in detail in this PDF file.
The purchase price of the Z27q monitor is expected to be 1,300 US dollars, which would undercut the UP2715K from Dell by more than 1,000 US dollars.
According to HP, the Z27q will be delivered in the USA from March 2015.
