Maxon, a leading developer of professional solutions for 3D modeling, painting, animation and rendering, is joining the Khronos Group industry consortium. With its membership, Maxon underscores its continued support for the development of open standards for authoring and accelerating 3D graphics, games and media for many platforms and devices. In future, Maxon wants to participate intensively in defining and enforcing open interchange and computing formats.

Leading manufacturers from the CG industry have foundded the nonprofit organization Khronos Group (based in Oregon). The consortium deals with developing and distributing uniform, open formats for computing and exchanging graphical and dynamic content. These include established libraries such as OpenGL, OpenCL, WebGL and the Collada format. The group’s members develop Khronos API specifications and universal standards that help make graphical content usable and interchangeable for users across applications and on different output devices.

Cinema 4D already supports some of the formats and specifications defined by Khronos, such as Collada and OpenGL. In future, others can also be implemented more effectively and continuously developed together with the members of the Khronos Group.
