It does not look like an April Fool’s joke: Fusion 8 is here, with final licences. Fusion 8 is the first Mac version of the compositing package, which was previously only available on Windows. The Studio version is now also available with multi-user licences for 10, 20 or 50 artists, which are then managed via a single dongle that in turn accesses an installation of Fusion Server on the admin machine. Floating Licenes are therefore up and running quickly and are not tied to a machine.
Fusion 8
Fusion 8 remains – as with Davinci Resolve – free to download, and sufficient for indie FIlms, motion graphics or BRoadcast tasks. It includes 2D and 3D compositing as well as the motion-graphics components, including paint, rotoscoping, titling, animation, keying and particle tools, as well as GPU acceleration, rendering, I/O of 3D models and keyframing. Importantly, the free version is fully compatible with the Studio version – so everything can be scaled up if required.
Fusion 8 Studio
Fusion 8 Studio is sold for 995 US dollars and brings all the features of the free version, plus the following features:
- Opticalflow image analysis for stereo 3D projects (particularly retiming and stabilisation)
- OpenFX interface
- Unlimited network rendering
- Generation (a collaboration tool for asset management and pipeline administration)
Fusion 8 Studio for a single user costs 995 US dollars; 8,955 USD is due for 10 users, 17,895USD for 20 users, and 44,495USD for 50 users.
