Unreal Engine 4.12 with VR Editor

The games engine comes with direct editing in virtual worlds and the new Sequencer editing tool as the successor to Matinee.

The biggest new feature in Unreal Engine 4.12 is Sequencer. Thanks to non-linear editing of 3D animations, in-game film sequences and preliminary visualisations can be created. New camera and rig actors provide realistic camera settings. Sequencer is visually based on its predecessor Matinee.

The engine also contains a first preview of a VR editor. If “Enable VR Editing” is activated, developers can place themselves virtually in the scene and position and rework objects and characters more precisely. The zoom options open your eyes to details.

Further Features of Unreal Engine 4.12:

  • Mobile renderer that uses the Vulkan graphics API
  • Support for the OSVR Software Platform
  • Expanded audio-localisation options
  • Option to encapsulate Blueprints in C++ code
  • Connect mesh actors in the viewport
  • Import scenes from Blender, Maya and 3ds Max
  • Declare integer properties as bit masks
  • Achieve more realistic displays on mobile devices
  • Can handle Google’s new VR platform Daydream

Infor for Windows users: The current requires version Visual Studio 2015, so update it if necessary.
