The sensor sits in a MicroSD, which is simply inserted into the card slot with a card adapter. This allows a camera to record normally while the gyro data is logged in parallel. In specially programmed software, you set how intensively the image should be straightened. A video in 1080p30 is then supposed to be calculated from this in real time.
There are already some cameras that use data from a built-in position sensor for stabilisation. As an additional benefit in an SD card, however, the functionality is much more elegant. Of course, as with every electronic stabilisation, the image has to be cropped and scaled.
Whether and when virtualGimbal will be available is still unclear.
