Lengthy rigging can quickly ruin your mood. mGear can help—the free tool gets new features with the 2.0 update that give you a hand with rigging. Speaking of rigs: in the upcoming issue, we are focusing on characters—2D and 3D rigging will therefore also be a topic.
What Is mGear?
mGear is a tool for Autodesk Maya that lets you create rigging and animation tools. With the modular rigging system called “Shifter,” mGear offers a way to quickly build simple rigs for humans, creatures, robotor, and mechanical props, and is aimed primarily at artists without programming knowledge.

The mGear tool is available for all Maya versions from 2015 onward and works under Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux.
