The Animationsinstitut of the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg will show a multimedia presence in Stuttgart during FMX week from May 2 to 7. The Animationsinstitut will pitch its tents in the middle of the School Campus from May 2 to 5. Here, prospective students and professional visitors can familiarize themselves with the institute’s curriculum and get to know employees, students and alumni.
Alongside the school stand and in the VR Gallery, two teams of Baden-Württemberg alumni will show their VR prototypes “Wheelhouse” and “Koshu VR,” which they developed as part of the VR NOW talent programme. In “Wheelhouse” by indie game developer Martin Nerurkar, the player sits sits in a wheelchair and must navigate through a room via VR headset and solve puzzles there to reach the next level. Koshu VR, which was realized with the participation of several graduates from the “Interactive Media” study focus around Jonas Kirchner and Benjamin Rudolf, transports the user into a strange desert world that must be explored. A technical special feature of the game: position tracking is possible wirelessly.
Visitors can also test further quarterly and diploma projects from the VR and 360° field from the “Interactive Media” study focus. While Caty Davis Blättermanns’ “The Blues the Scenario” makes a panic attack tangible, Ricardah Saleh devotes “Athens” to the story of a little refugee girl in 360° degrees. In Simone Pivetta’s ironic “VR Pidgeons,” the user’s task is to steal bread crumbs from fellow pigeons as a pigeon. All projects are part of the VR Stage, where, alongside the students, speakers and exhibitors from the FMX programme also provide brief insights into their creative work.
Filmakademie Films at ITFS
“Ein Krötenlied” has two chances to win at ITFS this year, having secured a place both in the International Competition and in the Young Animation student film competition. “Shine” (see DP 06:15) and “In One Drag” also compete in the Young Animation student film competition, while “Fields of Rape” can hope for an award in the International Competition. In the special BW-Rolle programme, alongside the aforementioned films “Fields of Rape”, “Ein Krötenlied” and “Shine,” “BreakingPoint” (see DP 02:17) and “Child” can also be seen.
The institute also plays the large screen at Schlossplatz. Here, the audience can attend the open-air presentations by the diploma teams behind “Shine” and “On Your Way,” and can also get to know Studio Seufz, a new start-up of successful Filmakademie graduates at the location. On Saturday evening, the Schlossplatz audience also has the opportunity to experience the exclusive premiere of the FMX 2018 trailer live.
