V-Ray from Chaosgroup is now available in version 3.6 for Maya 2018. Following the last update in April, the renderer now also has hybrid rendering. The simultaneous use of GPU and CPU is currently receiving a lot of attention from developers – Pixar also announced hybrid rendering in Renderman at SIGGRAPH 2017. Anyone who wants to look at work created with V-Ray should take a look at the 2017 showreel!

New Features in V-Ray 3.6

  • Hybrid Rendering – with V-Ray GPU CUDA, the renderer now works on CPUs as well as GPUs in order to make full use of all available hardware.
  • Cryptomatte support is also making its way into V-Ray for Maya. With Cryptomatte, you can automatically generate IDs for transparency, depth and motion blur mattes for use in Nuke or Fusion.
  • MDL Materials from NVIDIA now also enable the use of MDL materials from programs such as Substance Designer
  • Lights can now be selected as seperate render elements
