Edius 9 can edit HDR image material natively and, according to Grass Valley, import it easily. Numerous colour spaces are supported in the HDR workflow, including BT.2020 and BT.2100; for recording formats, the software supports Cinema Raw Light from the Canon C200 as well as 10-bit Cinema DNG. Users can mix SDR and HDR footage in the timeline during editing.
Other new features include an improved user interface and a new metadata search function. In addition, Edius 9 also includes the Mync program with extended and new functions for organising and sharing video recordings and other media files. The 64-bit program supports I/O cards from AJA, Blackmagic Design and Matrox, allowing existing hardware to be integrated seamlessly.
Cloud Working
Thanks to the “Cloud Ready” floating licence package planned for April after the release of Edius 9, which is particularly suitable for large companies, users can access the same project from multiple devices. Everything is connected via Grass Valley’s cloud platform.
Availability & Price
According to Grass Valley, Edius 9 will be available in Europe on November 7. Anyone who purchased Edius 8 after September 1 can upgrade free of charge. Users of earlier versions will have the opportunity to purchase a discounted jump upgrade. All information is available on the Edius website. A free trial version of Edius 8 (30 days, no functional limitations) is available here. In Germany, for example, Magic Multi Media is one of the specialist dealers for Edius; version 8 costs 589 euros there.
