Even though Avid Media Composer is subscription-based and updates therefore come along more often, this one seems to be able to do a little more than usual.
16K? No Problem!
Probably the biggest and most striking feature of the new version is 16K support. The fact that existing cameras, most of which are still in the 4K region, are now more likely to give up does not seem to bother Avid. So anyone who treats themselves to Media Composer in its latest version can at least be certain that nothing will catch them off guard in terms of resolution in the near future. With version 2018.7, you can therefore get started directly with 16K and 120p… assuming you can even get hold of such footage anywhere.
“live timeline”
Although probably already a little overdue by now, there is now also the live timeline. Previously, playback in Media Composer stopped immediately as soon as you wanted to do anything other than just watch. That has now changed, and you can actually press a few buttons in parallel without everything coming to a standstill.
Apart from the two main suspects, Avid has also included a whole host of other features, such as support for NDI (Network Device Interface) IP.
