The brand-new Media Composer 2019 is currently being presented at the NAB Show 2019 – Avid has already provided an overview of the new features in advance: 16K resolutions, ACES workflow, new Media Engine and more.
Media Composer 2019 at a Glance
With features such as native OP1A support, support for more video and audio streams, live timeline and background rendering, as well as an option for distributed Processing, users can expect more performance from the new Media Engine. Depending on the Media Composer variant, various editing, finishing and collaboration features have been added in Media Composer 2019:
New Editing Features
- New Timeline Tools for editing clips & audio tracks faster
- Panel Interface for individually customizing the interface
- Organizing, displaying and searching media with new methods, including via a small visual navigator window.
- Inspector Tool, which can be used to create, edit or display metadata for a clip or sequence in a bin.
Finish & Delivery
- 32-Bit Floating Point pipeline provides increased quality and supports everything from Hi-Res up to 16K, HDR color data and various effects.
- OpenEXR format support, now also enabling corresponding post workflows with the well-known format.
- ACES support and joining the ACES Logo Program for future specifications.
- DNxUncompressed 32-bit format for editing color corrections and VFX shots at full bit depth without loss of quality.
Collaboration for Teams
The new Media Composer | Enterprise offers administrative functions for adapting the user interface to each role in the team – for example, for an editor, an assistant, a logger or a journalist. Content can also be locked, which is intended to reduce the risk of unauthorized access. Also new is browser-based editing, to prepare, trim and arrange material faster – including Multi-Camera Group Clip (up to 64 camera angles)
Availability
The 2019 updates are expected to be available in late spring for all (new) variants – that is, for For Media Composer (First, Media Composer, Ultimate and ). You can find a complete list of features here.
