With Cavalry, Scene Group released a new procedural motion-design tool as a free beta a few weeks ago. We compiled a brief overview of the software’s features here. After a great deal of user feedback, the first updates are now available to fix many of the bugs. The new update also brings video import, a new Graph Editor, a new Sequence element and more!

New Sequencer

The Sequencer generates random, non-repeating number sequences. Its parameters consist of Auto Index, Index, Sequence, Randomize, Seed and Skip Indices. Further information and an example sequence can be found here.

New formats and video import (Tech Preview)

The tool now also supports new formats, including EXR import, APNG output, ProRes output and more. The new video-import options (Tech Preview) are particularly interesting. New formats (.mov, .webm, .apng, .gif) and codecs (VP8, VP9, H.263, H.264, H.265 and ProRes) are supported.

Further new features

  • Graph Editor rewrite for more complex animation curves, keyframe options, simultaneous display of multiple Bézier curves and much more.
  • Viewport link with search results in the project window.
  • Flow Graph for viewing the dependencies of all elements.
  • Precomps now have the resolution of the parent composition.
  • Many bug fixes—an overview is available here.
