Salient Keyer

Autodesk Flame 2021.2 substantially expands its machine-learning-assisted keying tools. Whereas the previous version focused on skies, human body parts and facial regions, the Salient Keyer can identify a wider range of objects. Artists draw a selection box, Flame identifies prominent objects and generates a matte that can then be refined, including edge treatment and transparency.

Bounding Boxes and Interface Layouts

Animated bounding boxes help isolate moving objects in footage. The release also introduces switchable single- and dual-panel interface layouts, replacing the previous left- and right-expanded panel options.

Performance and Export

Autodesk reports faster navigation through timelines, especially complex sequences. Flame 2021.2 can export 8- or 16-bit PNG files and supports Sony XAVC Intra and Long GOP codecs in QuickTime containers.
