Modo 14

Modo 14.2 completed Foundry’s Modo 14 series. The release cycle introduced USD support, Rig Clay, grease-pencil tools, MeshFusion embossing and a Ghost/XRay viewport.

Foundry also highlighted improvements to modelling, procedural workflows, UV tools and rendering, with substantial performance gains across booleans, selections and rendering. Product director Shane Griffith said feedback from users helped shape more than 60 additions.

Modelling and viewport improvements

Direct-modelling updates included new Mitering Offset and Sharp Corner options for Edge Chamfer, plus a Chamfer Edit tool supporting direct and procedural workflows.

Sharp Corner options extend Modo’s edge-chamfer workflow.

Procedural modelling gained MeshFusion improvements, procedural vertex maps and Keep Vertices for deleted geometry. Rendering and shading adopted OptiX 7 GPU acceleration, Intel Embree support and Cryptomatte masking. Animation and rigging gained faster FK/IK switching for planar IK, Rig Clay and USD import and export.

Foundry reported a refreshed viewport, faster Shader Tree processing, booleans up to 380 times faster, doubled component-selection performance and edge-removal operations up to 100 times faster.

Rendering and shading received GPU and workflow updates.
