In brief: Pilgway released 3DCoat 2021.53, updating its toolset for digital sculpting, UV work, PBR texturing, painting, rendering and low-poly modelling.

New features and changes: The release introduced RGB Cavity as a standard calculation method for texturing. Pilgway described it as particularly useful for PBR painting across textures and meshes.

Smart Materials were substantially reworked. The system could account for the available map types and derive displacement information from normal maps when native displacement was unavailable. The update also generated a preview rather than assigning only cube mapping.

Partial voxelisation received a fix for a visible square boundary that could appear around areas modified with Face Strokes and become more pronounced after repeated strokes. The Pose tool added support for normal extrusion and regular transformations.

An updated update manager was also designed to notify users about available releases earlier.

More information: Pilgway published the original 2021.53 release notes on the 3DCoat website. Digital Production’s archived coverage of 3DCoat 2021 provides additional historical context.
