For those who don’t know the tool: Pipe It is Sentient Art’s pipe-network plugin for Unreal Engine, sold on Fab as Sentient Software. It assembles modular pipework inside the editor, with editable layouts, custom mesh kits, geometry baking and a Blueprint API for runtime construction. It supports Unreal Engine 5.4–5.8.
Finally, some pipe maintenance
If you’ve been putting off the pipe maintenance in your apartment, here’s a chance to tackle it digitally. Your landlord may remain unconvinced, but at least these pipes come with Undo. Pipe It lets you draw routes in Unreal’s viewport while it selects the matching corners, tees, crosses and caps. The layout stays editable, so moving a junction does not mean manually persuading twelve separate elbows to cooperate. Four included kits cover PVC, Industrial Gas, Big Industrial and Sci-Fi; swapping kits keeps the route intact.
Draw the route, spare the elbows
A Pipe Network actor holds a graph of junctions and connecting runs. Pipe meshes stretch or tile between nodes, with snapping, typed lengths and flexible curves handling the route. Brackets find nearby surfaces and update their attachments when supporting geometry moves. Mesh Scale Multiplier changes pipe thickness without moving the nodes, for the inevitable request to make everything look more expensive.
Your own static meshes can join the system through Kit Authoring. Sockets define openings and orientation; the editor helps position them, align pieces and flag invalid connections. End caps instead use an aligned joining face at the origin. A folder of cylinders is a start, not a plumbing qualification.
The rendering bill
Auto render mode keeps individual components in the editor, then uses instancing for non-Nanite kits or components for Nanite kits at runtime. Authoring preserves per-piece interaction; forced Instanced mode gives that up. The developer recommends Authoring for Nanite kits and player-editable networks.
Render Mode is configurable in the details panel or C++, but not writable from Blueprint. Set it on the actor class when spawning through Blueprint. The shop’s draw-call claims are not a frame-rate guarantee: a corridor full of pipes still has to fit your rendering budget.
Baked does not mean packed
Baking offers a merged Static Mesh, separate Components, ISMs or HISMs. Use Authoring or Auto mode and retain an editable copy. The merged output gets default collision and does not inherit the kit meshes’ Nanite settings; component-based outputs retain those original mesh settings. Curved runs remain separate spline mesh components in the component and instance outputs.
The result no longer needs Pipe It’s code to render, but it still references kit content. Merged geometry retains material and texture dependencies; component bakes also reference the original meshes. Remove those resources and you can get grey pipes or missing geometry. The bake button is not a removal van.
Let the players call the plumber
The Blueprint runtime API supplies graph edits, placement previews, undo batching and layout save/load for a construction interface you build yourself. Enable Runtime Editable first; it is off by default. Batch drag gestures unless you want one undo step per frame, which is an ambitious interpretation of customer service.
Export Graph saves the layout as bytes for a USaveGame. Kit assignment, render mode and scale sit outside that payload, while undo history is neither saved nor replicated. On the Authoring path, edits can recreate piece components, so resolve them again through On Graph Changed instead of keeping stale references.

Availability:
Pipe It 1.0 is available on Fab for Unreal Engine 5.4–5.8 and C++ or Blueprint projects.
The installation guide specifies Windows editor support. Fab also lists macOS and Linux as development platforms, but Windows as the target platform. The German Fab selector displayed Personal at €79.28 including €12.65 VAT, and Professional at €243.17 including €38.83 VAT. Personal applies up to US$100,000 in revenue or funding over the preceding 12 months; Professional applies above that. Both use the Fab Standard License, whose published summary gives both tiers the same rights. Prices are the regional amounts observed during research.
