Ultimatte integrated the Advant-Edge algorithm into its 24p HD systems. The real-time blue-screen and travelling-matte engine used Xilinx Virtex-II 6000 FPGA technology.
The system supported dual-link 4:4:4 I/O, internal 4:4:4:4 processing, an external matte input and broadcast-HDTV and digital-cinema 24p/psf formats. Its workflow was intended to carry image and matte data from creation into the edit suite.
A Virtual Control Panel replaced dedicated hardware controls with a Windows 2000 software interface for Ultimatte 9, Ultimatte 400 and Ultimatte HD. The panel bundled with Ultimatte 400 was priced at US$9,500.
Ultimatte is now part of Blackmagic Design. The technology belongs to the VFX and broadcast archive.
