Scannova Studio 2D promised pixel-accurate object cutouts with only a few mouse clicks. The system combined blue-screen techniques with software based on neural networks to distinguish an object from its background.
After the operator marked several background and object points, the software generated a cutout mask for each photographed view automatically.
The related Scannova 35 system used the same technology to create animated 3D product presentations. Its camera-and-lighting package captured objects up to 35 cm, while the isolated 2D views could be reused in cross-media production.
Studio 2D used prepaid cutout credits; Scannova 35 was planned as a pay-per-scan service with a 300-scan annual minimum. The products belong to the image-editing and 3D-scanning archives.
